EMG-guided therapy:

For some conditions requiring precise anatomic localization

and optimal treatment, Electromyographic (EMG) guidance is utilized.

Evoked Potentials

Visual Evoked Potential (VEP)

Indications:

  • Multiple Sclerosis (Suspected/Follow-up)
  • Optic neuropathy
  • Optic neuritis
  • Ocular hypertension
  • Glaucoma
  • Diabetes
  • Toxic amblyopia
  • Glaucoma
  • Leber hereditary optic neuropathy
  • Aluminum neurotoxicity
  • Manganese intoxication
  • Retrobulbar neuritis
  • Ischemic optic neuropathy
  • Tumors compressing the optic nerve - Optic nerve gliomas, meningiomas, craniopharyngiomas, giant aneurysms, and pituitary tumors.

Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potential (BAEP)

Indications:

  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Cerebellopontine angle lesions
  • Brainstem stroke
  • Brainstem tumor
  • Comatose patients -indicator of prognosis

Somatosensory Evoked Potentials (Median and Tibial)

Indications:

  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Myelopathy
  • Syringomyelia
  • Polyneuropathy
  • Lumbosacral disc disease
  • Intraoperative monitoring

EMG

emg_machine_pic

EMG (Electromyography) is a test that checks the health of the muscles and the nerves that control the muscles. The first part of the exam or the Nerve conduction velocity (NCV) is a test of the speed of electrical signals through a nerve. The second part or the myogram consists of checking particular muscles for abnormal activity.

Some disorders or conditions that we evaluate with EMG include:

Carpal tunnel syndrome

Peripheral neuropathy

Sensorimotor Polyneuropathy

Radiculopathy

Brachial plexopathy

Cervical spondylosis

Lumbar disc disease or back pain

Peroneal neuropathy

Myopathy

Sciatica

Tarsal tunnel syndrome

Mononeuritis multiplex

Chemotherapy-induced neuropathy
