EMG

emg_machine_pic

EMG (Electromyography) is a test that checks the health of the muscles and the nerves that control the muscles. The first part of the exam or the Nerve conduction velocity (NCV) is a test of the speed of electrical signals through a nerve. The second part or the myogram consists of checking particular muscles for abnormal activity.

Some disorders or conditions that we evaluate with EMG include:

Carpal tunnel syndrome

Peripheral neuropathy

Sensorimotor Polyneuropathy

Radiculopathy

Brachial plexopathy

Cervical spondylosis

Lumbar disc disease or back pain

Peroneal neuropathy

Myopathy

Sciatica

Tarsal tunnel syndrome

Mononeuritis multiplex

Chemotherapy-induced neuropathy

THERAPY

Botulinum neurotoxin

(e.g.brand name Botox, Dysport, Myobloc orXeomin) in small, diluted amounts can be directly injected into specific muscles causing controlled relaxation of these muscles.

This form of treatment relieves several movement, nerve and muscle disorders including dystonias such as blepharospasm (uncontrolled blinking), hemifacial spasms, mandibular dystonias (jaw spasms), cervical dystonias (torticollis), focal dystonias, task-specific dystonias and other muscle spasms.

Botulinum treatment has also been found to be effective for headaches.

We also provide Botulinum therapy for focal hyperhidrosis including axillary (excessive underarm sweating), craniofacial, palmar and plantar hyperhidrosis.

The most recent approved indications of this form of treatment are for certain types of Headaches/Migraines and for Upper limb Spasticity.
